UQ-ACQAO Student awarded Marie Curie Fellowship

September 2006.

Piotr Deuar

Ex UQ-ACQAO student, Piotr Deuar, has been awarded a prestige postdoctoral fellowship, the European Marie Curie Fellowship. He will take up his new position at Universite de Paris Sud, with eminent theorist Gora Shlyapnikov, working on ultra-cold atoms.

Piotr often seems relaxed, but he has been busy recently. After obtaining his PhD, he also married and with his wife Maria, had their first child, Stan! After spending time with family in Warsaw, he is working at Amsterdam on dipolar cold gases. Their next move is to Paris.

The new position will strengthen our existing ACQAO links with the new French cold-atom network, which is largely centered in Paris. Piotr will work on applying his ACQAO experience with positive-P quantum simulations to understanding innovative experiments like BEC collisions.

Picture shows Piotr in Poland's Tatra mountains, where he likes to hike. Looks like Stan will have to learn how to use his legs early in life!
