Quantum-Atom Optics Downunder - Wollongong

December 3 – 6, 2007
In conjunction with the International Student Summer School on Quantum-Atom Optics, Kioloa November 28-December 1

This was the first conference devoted to the overlap of Quantum and Atom Optics - providing new fundamental insights and experimental realizations of concepts common to both fields. This conference brought together in Australia key researchers from across the world to discuss the latest results in areas such as:

  • BECs
  • atom lasers
  • degenerate quantum gases
  • the generation and measurement of macroscopic quantum states
  • optical entanglement and quantum imaging
  • applications of atom and light entanglement including quantum communication
  • quantum statistical effects and correlations and quantum properties of lattices and periodic systems.

International Workshop on Quantum Noise 2007

14-18 May 2007 at Grand Pacific Resort, Caloundra, Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia.

This workshop will cover hot topics in quantum optics and ultracold quantum gases, from both theory and experiment. A particular focus will be on quantum aspects of matter waves and macroscopic quantum states, going beyond the methods and predictions of mean-field theory. This will include advances in analytical and computational methods, the latest experimental results probing the quantum nature of BECs, and applications of BEC to quantum information.

European–Australian Workshop on Quantum-Atom Optics

Sun 5 – Sun 12 February 2006, Canberra & Kioloa

This will be the third workshop in Quantum-Atom Optics which brings together students and researchers from the SFB Hannover, France and Australia. We will review the latest trends in quantum and atom optics and discuss the recent progress in this field. The topics will include: BEC, atom lasers, atom interferometry, quantum correlations and entanglement in photons and atoms, non-classical light, quantum information transfer and storage.

Quantum-Atom Optics Workshop in Queenstown

29 Nov - 1 Dec 2005, Queenstown, New Zealand

This international meeting, a satellite to ACOLS'05, will feature prominent international and local speakers. The meeting is hosted jointly by the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Quantum-Atom Optics (ACQAO), and its New Zealand partners.

The New Zealand and Australian Quantum-Atom Optics Workshop

Quantum engineering with photons, atoms and molecules

14-17 Feb 2005, Les Houches, France

The second in a series of international workshop for young scientists in quantum and atom optics organised by the  Laboratoire Kastler Brossel ( Paris) Sonderforschungsbereich for Quantum Metrology (Hannover) and ACQAO. Many of the presentations were given by young scientists, in parallel to a small number of review and reports of recent results.  The outstanding location together with ample time for discussion made this a memorable and very productive event. This meeting was sponsored by the French and Australian governments.

ACQAO 2004 science workshop at Kioloa

5-8 Dec 2004, Kioloa, Australia

This workshop reviewed most of the work in atom and quantum optics in Australia together with highlighting many recent international achievements in this field. This workshop was based on short talks describing recent progress in experiments and theory. It brought together ten overseas visitors (US, Canada, France, Austria, Singapore), six from new Zealand with a large representation of Australian groups and ACQAO.

ACQAO Summer School 2004

29 Nov - 3 Dec 2004, Canberra, Australia

This summer school brought together pioneers in quantum and atom optics  with a group of 60 students and young scientists. The school provided a systematic introduction into the topics of atom optics (J.Close), atom lasers (J.Hope),  superfluidity (A.Griffin) and quantum optics (H.Bachor) followed by specialised lectures on simulation of BECs ( R. Ballagh, P.Drummond), current experiments with BECs (W.Philips) and a summary on entanglement (A.Aspect). This school was sponsored by ACQAO and the  ANU.
